Thracian complex “Orlovi skali”
Thracian complex “Orlovi skali” The complex is located in “Orlovi skali” area (Kartal kaya). Around 90 niches are cut out in rocks standing above the forest. One hypothesis for the purpose of the niches is that inside of them were placed votive tablets or clay utensils. They are connected with the afterlife cult and traces of grooves, sacrificial stones and other ancient facilities were cut out under the rocks. The ruins of an ancient Thracian fortress could be seen close to the complex. The for-tress is located on the hill before the niches, encompasses area of 0.5 decares but is not clearly visible. It is known as “Kaleto”. In 1979 was designated as a protected site in the “Historical places” category. In 2003 was categorized as a natural monument. The fortress was built without mortar soldering, which is the reason for its entire destruction. The wall describes an irregular circle with diameter of 67m. The construction is dragged down and the surface is abundant of fragments of ancient pottery. Note: The easiest way to reach the complex is around the building of the Historical Museum in the quarter of Bistrogled. The road is narrow, but asphalted and marked all the way. There is a wooden alcove between the two quarters with a designating arrow.
