Thracian fortress close to Dzenda village
Thracian fortress close to Dzenda village The Asarkaya area could be reached following a good cart way after Dzenda village and close to Sokolite village. The ruins of a Thracian fortress are piled up stones with no mortar soldering and could be seen on a dominating height in extremely eroded rocks. Many trapezoid rock niches facing different directions are hewn out on a mushroom shaped rock piece located under the fortress. More niches can be seen also on the rocks over which the fortress was built along with various cu-touts like grooves and semicircles. Another ancient cut offs could be seen on separate rising up cliffs on the opposite slope. Right under the fortress, close to a centuries-old well preserved oak is located a turbe (a symbolic grave of a Muslim saint). A big fair takes place in the summer time every year. Note: The place is very beautiful with wonderful panoramic view and is suitable for tourism. It takes 10 minutes to reach from the fortress.
