Ancient gold mines, Stremci village
Ancient gold mines, Stremci village The mines are known as “Inikler” cave. They are located around 200m leftwards on the road Kardzhali-Haskovo (through Stremci village) and after the microdam between the villages of Rani list and Stremci. They have few entrances that are connected underground. Along the slope of the hill could be seen vertical mine works that were probably air-holes used for ventilation. A very popular opinion is that the place is an ancient mine for organized gold extraction. The total length of the galleries is 360m. The mine facilities are hewn into extremely strong rocks without any supporting constructions and following the îre-bearing vein. That’s why they look like a labyrinth. There is a small pond at the end of the galleries. In the area could be seen an-cient burrows – evidence of an initial selection of the extracted material that was made right on place. There are few more shafts along the road and on the slopes of the neighboring cliff but can not be easily found due to the grown up bushes. Note: The mines are easy to find, but for safety reasons it is better to be accompanied by a guide that knows the position of the galleries.
