Asara fortress near Zvezdel village This is a Medieval fortress, built in 11 – 12th century on a dominant height in the area of Zvezdel village. The remains of two big towers could be seen. Traces of residential rooms and a chapel are present in one of them. At a later time both towers were connected by a fortress wall. The eastern tower was guarding the gate. It was supplied with a water storage basin with a pink mortar floor coating. The water was purified with sand. Big part of the wall of the fortress was made out of wood. The two towers are con-nected with a cut in the rocks passageway. During the archeological excavations in the chapel were found unique medallions – part of an icon decorated with gold facing.
