Maintained reserve “Borovetz”, Raven village
Maintained reserve “Borovetz”, Raven village The reserve is situated around 2km away from Raven village. There is not a good road leading to it. It is a pine tree reserve – the easternmost pine plantation in Bulgaria. The total pro-tected area is 360 decares. The terrain is quite chopped with big steep slopes facing north, north-west and south. The average altitude is 400m. The soil is maroon with clay-sandy composition. Along with pine trees could be found winter oaks, Hungarian oaks, hornbeam trees and single trees of scotch fir. The lower altitude plants include briar, sumach, juniper and others. The reserve is characterized by rich grass vegetation. The average age of the pine trees is 130 years and the oldest are 180. Borovetz was designated as a protected site in 1956. In 1999 was categorized as a maintained reserve.
